Medication Management
As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, Damaris Aragon has full prescriptive authority to write for psychiatric medications.
Damaris Aragon can do both counseling and medication management. Studies have shown better outcomes when counseling and medications are used together, over using either treatment method by itself. After your initial evaluation, it will be determined which treatment plan(s) will best meet your specific needs. Please see below for further details.
Psychiatric Medication Management
Damaris Aragon can write for any indicated psychiatric medications for mental health conditions. This includes all the major psychiatric medication classes, including antidepresants, anxiolytics, mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, etc.
Please contact your primary care provider, or other medical provider concerning any medications or problems not related to mental illness.
My Holistic Care Approach
Has life become overwhelming? Has anxiety and depression have taken over your life? Are these issues interfering with you feeling your best? How can you once again regain focus and control when it seems there is one episode of chaos after another? My practice will help you focus on how to achieve your highest level of wellness. I have a holistic approach, consideration of the complete person, physically, and psychologically, in which medication in only one part of the interventions we will access together. I strive to help you find a plan of care that will fit your specific needs.
Depending on your needs and goals, I will blend approaches from various theories such as cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior skills, interpersonal, motivational interviewing and nursing science.
I like to involve your family and others who support you in your care, so you may invite a family member or support person to your appointment.
Medication Policy
I rarely initiate the use of tranquillizing drugs such as ativan, clonazepam, or xanax. If you are currently taking these medictions we will do a very careful analysis to confirm necessity but most likely switch to another medication with fewer side effects. If you have a condition requiring the use of amphetamines (Ritalin, Vyvanse, Adderall), I will need a statement of your diagnosis from your psychologist or other provider. I only prescribe one month at a time, according to federal law. During the first appointment we will participate in a detailed health history including physical illnesses, psychological history, and psychosocial history. If your issues or problems are not in my realm of expertise I will tell you that immediately.
